General Information:
The Commissioner of the Revenue is a state constitutional officer as set forth in the Constitution of Virginia. It is an elected position for a four-year term. The Commissioner is responsible for:

  • Administering the Tax Relief for the Elderly/Disabled Program
  • Assessing all personal property and certifying vehicles to qualify for the Personal Property Tax Relief Act
  • Overseeing the filing process of Virginia State income tax returns for Goochland residents.
  • Administering county business license

    Tax Day
    Goochland County is a non-prorating locality and our tax day is January 1. Personal Property you own that has a Virginia state license and/or is located in Goochland on January 1 of each year is what you will be taxed on for the entire year. We use the NADA January 1, Eastern Edition Used Car Guide; the loan value to value vehicles.
    The Commissioner of the Revenue's office is regulated by the State Code of Virginia and is responsible for upholding the Constitution of the laws of Virginia.
