Goochland Social Services offers the following Benefit Programs:

Auxiliary Grant Program:
Provides financial assistance with the costs of room and board for eligible elderly, blind, or disabled adults who reside in assisted living facilities.

Crisis Intervention/ Intake:
Assessment of families experiencing short-term financial crises, and referrals to appropriate financial aid programs and community resources.

Energy Assistance: (Seasonal)
Short-term financial assistance with heating/cooling costs for eligible low-income households

Emergency Assistance:
Provides short-term, limited financial assistance to families with children when a fire or other natural disaster has destroyed those things necessary for taking care of the family.

Food Stamp Program:
Supplements the food budgets of low-income households to help assure needy persons a nutritionally adequate diet. Eligibility is determined by financial need, household size, and non-financial criteria such as student and work registration. Medicaid:
Makes direct payments to health care service providers for eligible low-income individuals and families who are unable to pay for needed medical services. Medicaid pays for a variety of medical services including prescription drugs; doctor visits, nursing facility care, and hospital care.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program:
Temporary financial assistance to eligible families with children.



Goochland Social Services offers the following Service Programs:

Family Services:
Services to strengthen families including information and referral to community resources, assessments, financial counseling, crisis intervention, court-ordered home studies, and adoption services investigations.

Family Support Program:
Provides intensive in-home counseling services to youth, and to families with youth who are at risk for out-of-home placement.

Adult Services:
Home based care and services to enable adults to remain in their homes and to function as independently as possible. Also provides preadmission screening for Medicaid-funded out-of-home placements such as Medicaid-funded nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult day care, when necessary.

Employment Services:

Assessment, counseling, and assistance for TANF recipients and others who are seeking employment.

Day Care Services for Children:
Services to assist families in locating quality day care providers, and financial assistance with day care costs for eligible families.

Foster Care Services for Children:
Provides counseling, supervision, placements, and supportive services to or on behalf of children, who are in the custody of the Goochland County Department of Social Services.

Child Protective Services:
Investigation and/or assessment of reports of suspected child abuse and neglect, and the coordination of services and resources to prevent its recurrence.

Adult Protective Services:

Investigation of reports of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation of adults, and the provision of services to alleviate this.
