| PLEASE NOTE | Effective January 1, 2010, the Goochland County Code was changed by the Board of Supervisors to permit proration of personal property tax on motor vehicles and trailers and semitrailers. Under the new procedures, motor vehicles and trailers will be taxed for the portion of the year that the personal property is legally located in Goochland County. The legal location, or “situs,” of a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer is defined as the place where property is normally kept or garaged. Click this link for more information

| General Information: The Commissioner of the Revenue is a state constitutional officer as set forth in the Constitution of Virginia. It is an elected position for a four-year term. The Commissioner is responsible for: - Administering the Tax Relief for the Elderly/Disabled Program
- Assessing all personal property and certifying vehicles to qualify for the Personal Property Tax Relief Act
- Overseeing the filing process of Virginia State income tax returns for Goochland residents.
- Administering county business license
Tax Day Goochland County is a prorating locality for personal property taxes. Vehicles and trailers will be taxed for the portion of the year that the personal property is legally located in Goochland County. The loan value of the January NADA Eastern Edition Used Car Guide is the method of valuing vehicles in Goochland. Machinery and Tools, boats and business equipment will continue to be taxed based on legal status and ownership as of January 1 of each year. The Commissioner of the Revenue's office is regulated by the State Code of Virginia and is responsible for upholding the Constitution of the laws of Virginia. |
