The mission of the Office on Youth is to promote positive youth development and prevent juvenile delinquency. It is a central point of information within County government for youth-related issues. Youth and families can access information about available services through a telephone referral line (FYI line) and a Youth Resources Directory.
Another role of the Office is to bring together community groups and agencies to assist in establishing or expanding programs and services for youth. The Office also focuses on high-risk areas for youth , including the prevention of teen pregnancy, child abuse, substance abuse, school dropouts, and illiteracy. Programs originating through the Office have included a tutoring and mentorship program at the Middle School, and coordinated community-wide child abuse prevention month activities.
Staff also provide public education concerning problems facing youth, and are available to speak to community organizations, youth groups, or assist with specific youth programs.
