The County Attorney is the general counsel for the County government. By statute, the County Attorney represents the County of Goochland, the Board of Supervisors, and the various boards, commissions, departments and agencies of the County. The County Attorney defends lawsuits against the County and various clients. The County Attorney prosecutes County ordinance violations. Drafts and approves ordinances, contracts and other official documents as to form. Gives day-to-day legal advice to governmental clients. The County Attorney does not prosecute criminal cases for the Commonwealth, as does the Commonwealth’s Attorney. The County Attorney is prohibited from representing or advising private clients.
