Head of Administration

Lt. Terry Pleasants began her career with the Sheriff's Office in August of 1992. After serving in Uniform Patrol Operations, she was promoted to Corporal in March, 1996 and then to Sergeant in July, 1998. On December 2nd, 2003 Terry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in charge of Administration. Her duties include scheduling training for all Sheriff's Office personnel, as required by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services; researching and applying for grants; implementation and revisions of Departmental policies;  supervising the Goochland County Sheriff's Office Communications Department with eight dispatchers;

Supervising Juvenile, General District and Circuit Courts with inmate transportation; supervising part time court officers; administrating the testing and hiring process for Deputies, Communications Officers and office staff; and supervising, overseeing all general office functions and coordinating all special assignment activities for patrol personnel. Lt. Pleasants was certified as a D.A.R.E. instructor and taught D.A.R.E. for several years while still maintaining her patrol duties. She is one of the Sheriff's Office Certified Hostage Negotiators and received training in this area from the University of South Florida, Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy, Public Agency Training Council, and Crisis Negotiation Associates. Lt. Pleasants has had training in Management and Leadership, and is a DCJS Certified General Instructor as well as a certified VCIN instructor. Lieutenant Pleasants attended school in Grayson County before moving to Goochland in 1980. She worked for a Richmond based supermarket for several years before coming to the Goochland County Sheriff's Office. She is currently working on her associates degree in Criminal Justice at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Lieutenant Pleasants and her husband have been happily married since 1981. They have one child and reside in Goochland County.
